I'll never forget that day. I was quietly "minding my own business" at Freedom Hall, waiting for service to start. The workers were attending fresh anointing, so the rest of us non-workers just found "our levels" whilst waiting for the main service to start.

Shortly before the begining of service that day, my good friend Gboyega "Gb" Odebiyi, walks up to me with this mischevious grin on his face. He starts by saying that well, he has committed...upon further prodding, he opens up to explain that he has committed ME to an emergency "short-term" ministry assignment.

He further went on tho elaborate - he'd been helping out as keyboardist at a young RCCG parish somewhere in Aguda, where our mutual friend Wale (Adenuga) was Music team leader. However, due to his busy schedule at Freedom Hall, he'd like me to just step in "temporarilly" while the personnel issues were being sorted out.

So, could my humble self help a brother out? Of course, I immediately REFUSE!! I knew what was involved in playing music in a church setting...and I just was not going to get involved in all that work, and stress again! No way!

Eventually, he pulls out his ace - that his charming, disarming, boyish grin! I'm like ok, but just this once!

Well, almost immediately, Wale arrives on the scene. He's come to pick me up, as service is just about to start! We march out to the car park, and there's this dark blue Mercedes benz 200 ("regular") with "the driver" behind the wheels. Now I can't remember much about what happened next, except that I kept wondering if the man was sent to kill us all in a motor accident that morning!

Anyway, we arrive at the church, and Wale ushers me to a keyboard. I'm both disappointed and "insulted". I mean, a whole me! I've played keyboards for close to two years with the great Panam Percy Paul himself! Now i was being "downgraded" to a measly PSR 500!! I mean!

Anyway, I think to myself, It's the work of The Lord. Let me just humble myself, and get on with it. Besides, it's just a temp task, anyway.

So after, the service the Pastor, who incidentally was "the driver" introduces me to the work force, and makes a comment like "the sisters should open their eyes, as God is starting to bring the brothers". In my mind, I'm like yeah right! Me? I'm on my way to Canada. VFS or bust!

Well, It was Sunday March 26, 1995, and 12 years later, I'm still in Jubilee!

ThEO!

BTW, I even got married to a lovely lady i saw that day. But hey, that's gist for another article.

I got a place at Aguda sometimes in June 1998, a couple of months to my wedding. Previously we were attending an RCCG parish at Falolu Road, Surulere. My colleague in the office told me that he attended a church in a close on Williams street where they forget to collect offerings at times.

Be sure that his statement caught my fancy because as at this point I had not fully committed to Christ as in given all, my impression of churches was that they were all out to collect money, so off we went to church which turned out to be Jubilee.

The experience was good, I felt they werenᅵt so bad afterall, we could just try this guys out.

Lo and behold, nine years down the line, I am here writing this article, deeply immersed in RCCG Jubilee Christian Centre.

I started staying with my uncle on Yisa Braimoh Street, Aguda, They attend Jubilee so, i joined them.
The look and feel of the church was ok. It was abt the time they started renovation.
I really enjoyed myself because worship was different from what is obtainable in other places. This worship time was \"mpia\" superb. Honestly i was richly blessed and convinced that jubilee is a music church. The Word Time by Pastor Femi was also great O. Everything was nice.
Another thing i liked was service closed on time. (No long service)

I did something i still regret till today. When they called first timers in church, i stood up but did not wait after service for first timers meeting. I lost out:

1. i did not get the soft drink and snacks ha ha ha aha and
2. (the vital...)I did not get to mix with people because i did not wait for first timers meeting which is the first place u get to start meeting people. So, for years i was going to church and nobody knew me. I practically removed myself from the church. It was after a time that i felt the need to move closer, so i started foundation class and workers training before I became a worker.
That taught me some lesson. So, brethren, i encourage everybody to get invovled in church activities from day one.

JUBILEE IS A BEAUTIFUL PLACE

my ist day in jubilee was waoooooooooh.i actually came to church that day because of a babe i met along williams street ,and who invited me to church.i was jst calm and pretending to be a devouted christian, all because of my date ,who was sitted by my side. The message for that day was powerful, being a thanksgivig sunday, and i saw some wonderful dancing steps, there and then,i made up my mind to be a regular worshipper there. This was sometimes in 1999,Its actually an atmosphere of JUBILATION,no holds barred.I hope to be a member of the workers in church very soon.

The very first time I came to Jubilee was sometime in 1994.At that time the church was called Aguda Central Parish (ACP) and met at Woodhouse Cafe on Agbonyin Avenue. It was not at all a conventional church hall and there were chairs in every nook and corner. But one thing that struck me at the time was the energy that filled the room (many of the workers and members were young students from the College of Medicine,Idi-Araba,could that have contributed to the energy levels??!).It was electrifying. This was an army of go-getters and nothing was going to stop them.It felt like nothing was impossible and God could take the Church to any level if we just played our part.It was such a contagious spirit, all I wanted to do was jump right in and join in the work, which I did by joining the workers\' training a few months later (the very first workers\' training) and have had NO REGRETS!!I believe it was that spirit at the beginning stages that has made Jubilee what it is today....a place called FREEDOM!

:zzz well i don't have much of story to tell about my first time in jubilee.I was only a child when my mum arm twited my 2 older siblings and myself to jubilee, dragging us away from our Baptist roots which was pretty annonying.

We arrived church that day and it was so hot i can remember scowling throughout the service.Since i could'nt take out the fraustration on my mum for being so "mean" i decided to take it out on the members and delibrately did not make friends and blatantly refused to join anything youth.

My big sister did not help matters she also was not interested in making friends(i just found out some years later that that's just her.

So for like 10 years i kept to myself, minding my own bussiness, being the classic snob until my brother(omoruyi)began dragiing me around first for nitty gritty shin digs then cajouled me to join the work force.

Well knidiseymour that life has changed and i am more open to people around me now,i have few pals but at least i have learnt to smile more and talk more.Church folk ain't that bad after all!

my first time experience in jubilee was really nice. that was in 2002. my cousin invited me over and i kind of like the church, the praise and worship on that day brought me out of a nasty mood and i danced and danced, surprising myself even! there and then, i made up my mind to leave the baptist church i was attending(which had become a habitual thing for me( but because i was in school at that time i couldn't become a regular member. A year later i went to serve and missed the church badly. After that i got a job at a hotel as a supervisor, it was hectic and i missed church because i had to do shift. Thank God, i am back fully in the church and catching up with the times i have missed. I am even looking forward to become a worker. How about that? :grin

my first time was actually a wedding in 1999,which was to me a very short service considering i was born a presbytarian and every thing we did in church took nothing less than 3 to 4 hrs, that was a major attraction with the R.C.C.G.But my 1st time was in 2000,i was newly married with a 3mnths old baby, when i got in i was directed to sit at the back with my fellow nursing mothers which upset me because im one to sit in front for everything.I had to explain to them that i had a one in a million baby who didnt feel crying was that interesting!so i finally had my way and also made a conscious effort not to have to be told\"we told you!\"so service ended and i didnt have to get up to go out with my baby. After that i missed a couple of services because i was still in the uni in ibadan, but i usually would worship there when i was home,i lived on adenuga then, now that little baby is 7yrs old with 3 junior ones and i live faaar away from jubilee BUT the messages and of course and our FOUNTAIN OF PRAISE keeps me and my household stuck on jubilee!
