Our History

Jubilee Christian Centre is one of the many parishes of the Redeemed Christian Church of God. Jubilee was founded in December 1993 with 7 people sent out from Freedom Hall on Jimoh Odutola, Eric Moore, Surulere. At that time, the church was known as Aguda Central Parish and was pastored by Gbenga Olayiwole. He was assisted by Sola Fola-Alade, both of whom are now pastoring thriving churches in the USA and UK respectively. Then the church met at Little chef (opposite Bakery bus stop) and later moved to Woodhouse café on Agboyin street all in Surulere.

In May 1994, Pastor Kemi Oluyele took over from Pastor Gbenga Olayiwole who was posted out on another assignment. About mid 1994, the church was evicted from Woodhouse café and the situation was such that we didn’t know where we were going to meet the following sunday. Sometimes, we met at the Agboola’s house on 38 Agboyin street, the Ndu’s residence on Akinsemoyin street and also at the open field on Jalupon crescent. We referred to this as “church on the move” in those days.

In late 1994, we found the present location (15, Williams Street, Off Adenuga Street, Aguda, Lagos) for the church. It was such a relief to find a stable place for worship. In those days there were no air conditioners, in fact there was no ceiling. Thanks to the General Overseer, Pastor Enoch A. Adeboye who paid us a surprise visit one Sunday and was kind enough to raise an offering to put the ceiling and more fans in place. Years later, we were enabled by God to buy the property.

PASTORS

Jubilee Christian Centre is pastored by Wale Adenuga. Wale first stepped into Jubilee on easter Sunday of 1994. According to him, he was just looking for a church to attend since he just finished his youth service a few months earlier. If he had known things will turn out like this years later, he probably would not have worked through the doors of that church. A 1991 graduate of Civil engineering from university of Ife, Wale is better known for his involvement in music.

A renowned worship leader, he has written songs like Today O, You alone are worthy Lord, Lord because of me amongst other which have become favourite praise and worship songs amongst Christians in Africa and beyond. Wale is passionate about seeing God’s kingdom come on the earth as well as seeing people fulfilling their destinies. With Pastor Wale, what you see is what you get. He is married to his friend, Bukola and they both have a daughter, Oluwafayokunmi.

Wale is assisted by Bankole Sadipe, a medical doctor by training. Like Pastor Wale, Bankole has been in Jubilee Christian centre since 1994. Pastor Banky’s oversight functions over the years includes children’s church, Teen City and marriage counseling. Armed with remarkable insight, Pastor Banky is married to Idowu and they both have a son, Abisayo.

We invite you to worship with us, God bless you!
